COMPLETELY Married!

That's it. Marriage #4 is in the can.
And, BOY, was it a doosy!!! This one was a BIG banquet in Chicago. 450 guests. 1 table for reporters/journalists! 2 more lions dances, a SUPER talented 7 year old violinist (she's soooo adorable) a dancer, a few singers. And a palanquin!

What's a palanquin, you ask?!?

It's a traditional chinese bridal carriage. Carried by 4 guys. It's a rough ride... so said Lina. We even went through the "kicking the door" ceremony in front of the audience. Felt like a play. Was in all good fun.

My wedding gown also got upgraded since the Vancouver banquet. Got a big traditional red bow tied around me. We made the newspaper!

Man, are we exhausted! Now.. onto our honeymoon. Paris/London: here we come.

Again... sorry. I'm sure you're interested in the pictures. They're to follow. Just too much to sort out. 8D

The SingTao Chicago paper August 30, 2006 edition. Front page! This was first of 5 papers! haha ... I think we're gonna be on the local news too. We're famous!!!!

An awesome cake topper (and a cake made of towels) made by my sister, Lillian! She's sooOOooo Martha Stewart!

Some of my Vancouver family (sans 4 of them) that flew over to Chicago just for our wedding!!!

This has GOT to be the funniest wedding gift EVER! (almost as bad as our vancouver wedding favors! LOL) It came with a Dominick's gift card. NOTE: Names has been blurred to protect the innocent(gifter).

I thee wed... again

So, we got married. Again. For the third time. This year.

But, it does feel more and more "official" though. This time we actually went through our traditional tea ceremonies on both sides of the family. I liked that. (got more loot too! Booyah!!!!)

And of course the banquet! Ah.. the good times.

(Pictures too follow... there's just too many to sort out. I may just end up posting another blog at another time... like when we come back from our Chicago trip! Sorry)

the Betrothal (Wedding #2!)

A WHAT!?!? you ask.

betrothal:
n 1: a mutual promise to marry [syn: troth, engagement] 2: the act of becoming betrothed or engaged [syn: espousal]

Today is that day for me. Actually, it's happening RIGHT NOW as I type up this blog. (11:52AM of May 21st) Now, why am I doing something so trivial on such a special day for me.. you ask? Well, traditional the groom is NOT to be involved with the actual betrothal event at all. Only the preparations. And boy, were there preparations!!!

This event is called "gaw dai lai". That's betrothal in chinese. The main elements of this crazy scavenger hunt was the roasted pig(WHOLE!) and the bridal cakes.

There were:
- entire roasted pig on customary platter
- bridal cakes in customary boxes
- 60 in total
- 4 are which must be dragon/pheonix cakes
- pairs of male and female poultry
- 2 old coconuts (these symbolizes something..I forget what. NOTHING phallic, I don't think!)
- 2 bottles of wine (XO)
- 2 boxes of tea
- 2 boxes of seafood each: ($$$!!!)
- shark fin
- abalone
- other wallet draining items
- all kinds of weird nuts and herbs which had to be of certain requirements (age, with or without the seed, etc)
- And of course... CASH!

And of course every item had some sort of meaning and symbolism. Of which I have no idea what they are... through thousands of years of traditions being passed down, I personally think some of this stuff has lost a bit of translation. I bet somewhere down the centuries, there was a comedian that "made up" a tradition or two of his own. (old coconuts?!? now come on!) And just passed it on to his heirs. He's laughing it up right now I bet!!

Since I'm not allowed to see the bride all day today, it is customary for me to send all this stuff with a family friend of ours. An older generation that is respected must carry this stuff for me. REPRESENT!

I wouldn't be able get all of this stuff without the help of my grandparents and uncles!!! PROPS to em!!!! w00t w00t! 8D

Well, Lina is having a big party right now with all my stuff. Hope they're enjoying it.

Babee, if you're reading this and showing this blog to your family right now... don't forget the rest of the tradition... save some of the good stuff for me!!!! I'm hungry.

You can find more pictures here.

A Good day!

Perfect weather. A picnic for two by the water. And a proposal!!

The ring is:
- huge (I'm guessing 50 carats)
- at least 100 points
- brilliant cut (at least)
- color of Lina's birthstone
- Real (well... it's made of real fruit juices. hehe... mmmm green apple)

She said 'yes'
